Hello Tweets,

My mother and I birded in S. King Co. starting at the 400 Marsh-SuperMall
area where we observed
53 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 4 H. MERGANSERS, 2 P.B. GREBES, and heard 2 V. RAILS.
Our next
spot was the flooded field to the west of EMERALD DOWNS racetrack on M st.
accessed from 15th
St. N.W. Here we observed and photographed 1 AM. GOLDEN PLOVER and 1
ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK. The plover was feeding in the saturated field between the flooded
area and M. St., which is
only "our" second encounter of this species in King Co. Other birds that
were noted here included:
1 COOPER'S HAWK, 62 DUNLIN, and 40+ AM. PIPITS. We birded along W. Valley
Hwy. south
of Smith Dairy Farm and noted 53 L.B. DOWITCHERS and 1 GR. YELLOWLEGS. Our
final stop
was at the south end of the Kent Ponds, where we saw 1 EARED GREBE, 1 W.
GREBE, 3 CANVAS-
BACKS, 15 RUDDY DUCKS, 128 "CACKLING" CANADA GEESE, of which 2 where collar
marked
12 "DUSKY" CANADA GEESE, 7 L.B. DOWITCHERS, 20 DUNLIN, and 1 AM. PIPIT. The
EARED
GREBE is "my" first record for the Kent Ponds.
