Hi all,
While gazing out my window yesterday, I was shocked to see a bird of prey
sitting upon my birdbath, which is right next to my feeders! Since I'm a
complete idiot when it comes to I.D.ing hawks, falcons and the like, I did
some careful research in Peterson's and could swear it was a SHARP-SHINNED
HAWK. Now at first I thought this was so cool! Never have I seen this kind
of bird so up close and in my own yard. Then I began thinking......... hmmm,
what do these guys like to eat anyway? Well duh! Little birds of course and
I began looking around at where only moments ago there were large numbers of
JUNCOS, CHICKADEES, HOUSE FINCHES and one lone TOWHEE. Well, I guess they
figured out the situation before I did and got the heck out of there. He was
a beautiful bird, but I wonder if he was the same individual who was circling
in the sky above where my son's guinea pig was feasting on grass just the
other day? Another close call, I'm sure.
