Subject: Northwestern birding for money
Date: Nov 4 13:33:45 1997

October is over and with it goes the 1997 World Birdwatch. Like last year,
the Japanese company NTT is donating approximately $10 to BirdLife
International for every species seen in the world in the month of October.
BirdLife uses this money to support its bird conservation programs worldwide.

Last year, American Bird Conservancy (the U.S. BirdLife partner) requested
trip reports for birding in the US and Canada. This year we took a slightly
different approach. We have been pouring over your trip reports and the RBA
transcripts to find out how many birds were seen in October.

Amazingly enough, 600 species have been gleaned from these lists. Who
woulda thunk you could have seen 600 species in the US and Canada in
October. Even with this high number, some species were missed in the
Tweeters area. Here's your chance to do something for bird conservation
while doing little more than responding to an email. How many more can be
added??

If you have seen any of these species please send ME (jprice at mho.net) an
email saying which species, the date and approximate location (county,
state/province). Remember only birds seen between October 1 and October 31
(incl.), 1997 count!

Here we go -

Emperor Goose, Spectacled Eider, Gray Partridge, White-tailed Ptarmigan,
Tufted and Horned Puffins, Spotted Owl, Calliope Hummingbird, White-headed
Woodpecker, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Alder Flycatcher, Least Flycatcher, Sky
Lark, any Rosy-Finch.

Thanks for your help!
