A few years ago I had a "birdbath" hawk also. I had seen and heard some
young hawks flying around the woods in my backyard - one actually flew under
the umbrella over our table on the deck while we were sitting at it! (Too
big a surprise to get a good look) Actually their flying seemed a little
"out of control". They SOUNDED like Red-tails but I THINK were
Sharp-shinned. (Do young hawks talk "babytalk"?) Anyway, another day one of
the young hawks was sitting in a big flat water dish I have on the ground for
birds who are afraid of my big fountain. He looked comical and was even
harder to ID in his wet, disheveled state. He stayed there quite a while and
looked quite happy!
