I would suspect that there is not much conversion of land to cropland to
raise bird seed as there is conversion from one cash crop to another ie;
such as from barley, wheat, oats, rye, lentils, rape (canola), etc to
sunflower, milo, millet, sorghum, niger thistle, etc. to take advantage
of markets, price vs. cost and so on. An analysis of annual crop reports
(state/national) would show the trends.
