Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday November 6. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

An adult SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER and two TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were found
together November 4 at the effluent ponds on the North Spit of Coos Bay.
All 3 continue to be seen along the roadway at the north dike. Also in
the area are; a NORTHERN SHRIKE, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, 2 WHITE-TAILED
KITES, a PEREGRINE FALCON, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, and several
PARASITIC JAEGERS.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD and a SNOWY OWL were reported from parking lot D at
the South Jetty of the Columbia River November 1. Neither have been
relocated.

A BLUE JAY is now coming to a feeder in Baker City. A female TUFTED DUCK
was on the Columbia River below the John Day Dam November 1. Check along
the roadway in the John Day Dam Recreation area. A number of WESTERN
GREBES are now gathering above the dam and many BONAPARTE'S GULLS are
below the dam.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER and an early ROCK SANDPIPER were at Bandon
November 1. A late LESSER YELLOWLEGS was at Pony Slough at Coos Bay the
next day.

Large feeding flocks have been reported during the week off the northern
Oregon coast. Hundreds of COMMON, RED-THROATED, and PACIFIC LOONS, BROWN
PELICANS, HEERMANN'S GULLS, and many SOOTY SHEARWATERS and KITTIWAKES are
being seen.

On November 2 ten SHORT-EARED OWLS were reported from Vancouver Lake, and
five WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS from Ridgefield NWR. There are still a
number of SANDHILL CRANES in the area. TUNDRA SWANS moved in during the
week and can be found there in many other areas of the state.

An OLDSQUAW, a SURF SCOTER, a RED-NECKED and an EARED GREBE are now being
seen on the Forest Grove Ponds. A female BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK is coming
to a feeder near Estacada and a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS is coming to a
feeder in Newberg.

Two SNOW BUNTINGS, a RED-NECKED and 3 EARED GREBES were at the Philomath
Sewage Ponds November 5.

A male OLDSQUAW was on a pond at the Rocky Ridge Ranch south of Wamic
November 1. A late POORWILL hit a window at Sunriver, south of Bend
October 31.

A pair of BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were on Ana Reservoir at Summer Lake
November 2. A number of swans are now on the Summer Lake Refuge. On
nearby Thompson Reservoir November 2 was a SURF SCOTER, 5 COMMON LOONS,
and 5000 COOTS.

If you are interested in exotic birds there is now a RED-BREASTED GOOSE
at Baskett Slough NWR.
