Many thanks to the Tweeters who responded to my query about this cormorant,
especially Bob Norton and Mike Price who so generously shared their
experience in identifying this bird. I've almost given up trying to i.d. a
swimming bird, but I do take a hard look at a cormorant flying directly
across the water in front of me--good profile (pelagic slimmer, thin bill,
long tail and, in season, white flank patch), Double-crested with "crook" in
the neck (didn't know that not was always a good field mark) and Brandt's
(stretched-out neck, hell-bent-for leather!) However, I'll try to be more
aware of the steep forehead, my only question being: will I be able to see
this difference in profile of my fly-by birds?

Next: Herring v. Thayer's--Does anyone out there remember when we were first
asked to try to differentiate between the two? Still trying!
