I was in Costa Rica four years ago and visited the Corcovado National Park on
the Osa Peninsula. It is an incredible place and I highly reccomend it.
Though I did not bird as compulisively at the time as I do now I saw
hundreds of incredible birds from collared forest falcons to bear throated
tiger herons and great tinimous. A wonderful place. However if you are up
for another spot I must reccomend Chirripo National Park that includes the
highest mountain in Costa Rica--Chirripo. The hike in is grueling about 10
miles and 7000 vertical feet. The trail called "Cemetario de la Machina"
(Cemetary of the Machine) starts in farmland and travels through upland
rainforest into cloud forest into scrub alpine forest and then onto alpine
tundra. Virtually every habitat in Costa Rica is represented and is one of
my favorite places on earth. Nothing is stranger than waking up in Costa
Rica to a frozen water bottle. Take a sleeping bag.....
