Spent the weekend on the outer coast, staying at Kalaloch more for
atmosphere than birds. Best bird there was an alternate plumaged
Yellow-billed Loon flyby heading south. Had a big yellow schnoz anyway. 10
Black Oystercatchers at various points along the northern beaches.

Went to Rialto Beach/La Push for the first time ever, nearly the end of the
earth. About 600 gulls about the Quileute River mouth, which, curiously were
predominantly Californias, Thayer's and Herrings. The 100 gulls at Kalaloch
were mostly Glaucous-winged, hybrids, and Mews, with just one Heermann's and
a good Western or two. Pelicans were all gone. No Brown Boobies or any other
boobies either.

At the jetty at Ocean Shores with a stiff ne wind behind, 100 rock pipers,
maybe 80 of them Surfbirds, 20 Black Turnstones, and at least two to maybe
five Rock Sandpipers (just two seen well). A nice immature Rough-legged Hawk
near the Game Range. Otherwise quiet.

Orca pod L was performing to a huge audience of 100s, literally, of boats,
big and small, kayaks, canoes, windsurfers, a float plane, jetskis, et al.
Excellent views in the sunny late PM from Chico road just north of
Bremerton. Hundreds of cars looking for places to park for a view of the
spectacle.
