An invitation from the Washington Ornithological Society:

The Society's 10th Annual Conference will be held 12-16 Feb. 98 in Mt.
Vernon WA.

There will be field trips to the Samish and Skagit Flats, a highlight of
which will be some of the best raptor watching in N. America at this time
of year. N. Whidbey Island trips will focus on its marine environment and
include a visit to the Naval Air Station, otherwise off-limits to most
birders. There are specially arranged visits to two of the three new
Skagit wildlife management areas, also off-limits to most birders. Add a
day to Canada for their specialties and spectacles, boat trips from
LaConner-through Deception Pass-to Williamson Rocks, and owling at night
for a bird-packed weekend.

Dinner speakers will be Bud Anderson, Arlen Fletcher, and Jim Shiflett with
video, slides, and radio tracking data (from Skagit County to BC) on the 96
and 97 Great Gray Owls. Another dinner speaker will be Fred Cooke,
Chairman of
Wildlife Ecology at Simon Fraser University, BC, with his research data and
video on Harlequin Duck. Banquet speaker will be Terry Wahl with a slide
program "Thoughts on the Evolution of Ornithology in Northwest Washington".
Some of his slides show the evolution of ornithologISTS, some of whom you
may vaguely recognize.

30 minute paper presentations are being solicited, and will include Simon
Fraser University research projects.

There will be an exhibitors'/vendors' room for artwork, birdfeeders,
books, etc.

Meals and accommodations are available.

Registration deadline is Jan. 15, 1998; but we expect that some field trips
and dinners/speakers will fill early. SEATS ARE LIMITED. You must
be(come) a WOS member and pay a basic conference fee to attend.
