On Saturday, November 8, 1997, 1200 PST, there were two CATTLE
EGRETS perched in a tree on the Washington State University Campus across
from the fruit sale barns. We were just leaving with our fresh apples when
I saw them fly into the tree. They perched in two small trees across the
road from the barn. The area contains a large number of animal pens
including cows, goats, horses, moose, bears, and bighorn sheep. I revisited
the area today, Wednesday, November 12, at 1000 PST but didn't see the egrets.
To get to the area, from Pullman, take the Moscow-Pullman Highway to
the airport sign and turn left. Continue down this road for less than a
mile, past the Stephen Center, past the Animal Science barns to the fruit
barn (all of the fruit barn signs are gone since this was the last week of
the sale). The birds might still be in the area even though I missed them
today.
I apoligize for the lateness of this report. I have been ill since
Saturday night.
