One of the immature Cooper's Hawks (from the nest that had to be somewhere
in St John's area of Portland) did a similar thing with House Sparrows in
my laurel this summer. It sat in a cherry tree above where the House
Sparrows had hunkered down. Then it dropped down into the laurel and came
out with a house sparrow. The Coop essentially walked into the laurel and
walked out with a house sparrow. It had evidentally gotten good at this
because when I had come home from vacation, I found three House Sparrow
carcasses in generally the same spot. RK
