Hola tweets,

Birded the Kent ponds at 9 AM, Alki beach at noon, Green Lake at 1 PM.

As I arrived at the Kent ponds two immature swans flew in. I was able to get
to within about 100 m and judge them to be Tundra Swans by concavity of the
culmen ridge and the way the eye was set off from the bill base. Also seemed
"not huge." Lots of Lincoln's Sparrows along the bike path there beneath the
power line, at least 10. Also about 20 Western Meadowlarks and a female
Kestrel. Three hundred fifty Canadas in the field north of 212th St. at the
Boeing facility just north of the Animal Shelter, including maybe 200
Cackling Canadas, a few with narrow white collars.

At Alki it was low tide and there were 55 Sanderlings, 9 Surfbirds, and 4
Black Turnstones foraging just south of the lighthouse. No Rock Sandpiper,
however.

At Green Lake over by the Bathhouse Theatre platforms I was startled to see
a Cattle Egret, but learned subsequently that Martin Muller had beaten me to
it by two hours. You can't scoop Martin on a Green Lake bird! Returned at 3
PM to take pictures but couldn't find it. One male Eurasian Wigeon nearby,
however, and a few Thayer's and Herring Gulls on the platforms.

Beautiful fall day!

Gene.
