Hello all,

today, after reading the report about the Yellow-billed Loon at Budd Inlet
made by Patrick Sulivan, I decided to head there as fast as I could. I
always have had the worst of luck in finding rare birds, so I was really
hoping the YB Loon would be my lucky break. I first headed to Priest Point
Park and scanned the Inlet for about a half hour with no luck, did spot all 3
Scoters and both Goldeneyes, but no YB Loon.
I then headed to East Bay Marina, and scanned again at the public access
dock, to no avail.

I was beginning to give up hope, but decided for one last check, I left the
Marina, and headed a short distance to the KGY Station. I scanned for about
15 minutes, finally finding a loon. I got my hopes up at once, but found it
to be a Common Loon, but it was just beginning to molt into basic plumage
from Breeding Plumage, (isn't this late for this loon to be molting into
Basic?). I went to the left of the restaurant next to KGY, and finally
spotted a Loon.

To my suprise and delight, it was the loon I was looking for. A lifer for
me. I then headed back to the KGY parking lot, and the loon made its way
towards me. It came within 30 feet of the shore, right between the
restaurant and the KGY station. I was so thrilled at this sight. The bright
yellow of the bill shining in the sunlight, (I am kicking myself for leaving
my camera at home!) And am glad I can find such a great bird so close to
home!
Well, thats about it,

Good birding everyone!
