Thanks Steve, and Hans, for dandelion suggestions ... but these aren't the
nice little yard dandy's that I would make salad or tea out of. These are
probably not dandelions at all, but that's what I call 'em. They grow to
about 6' tall (don't ask me how I know) and have a fine prickle on their
stems, along with the dandelion-like blossoms. They are quite sturdy, not
milky and thick like pretty dandelions are.
Actually, the chickadees like to perch on them, but that's not reason
enough to let them take over the garden. The chickadees have more than
enough perching room in the two dead christmas trees I use as 'natural'
feeders!
