Hi Tweeters,
I am trying to put together a list of BC birds in
various languages and am looking for standardized bird names.
I have most of the relevant foreign field guides but they provide
only a portion of the names. Of course, many BC resident birds
are not mentioned.
French names have been standardized for birds of the world
in *Noms Francais des Oiseaux du Monde* published by Multi-monde
Editions in Quebec. (around 1992, I haven't recieved it yet).
I am especially looking for a similar publication of standardized
names of North American or World birds for German, Spanish
and Japanese. I would also include some other languages if a
straightforward reference exists.
Spanish is particularly confusing for me because of the apparent
profusion of names. Between Stiles and Skutch(Birds of Costa Rica),
and Howell and Webb, (Birds of Mexico and NCA) there are
often 2, 3 or more names for a given species.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks, Max
