Sightings for Thursday, November 20th

An XANTUS HUMMINGBIRD was confirmed in Gibsons this morning. This
hummer, a native of Baja California, is visiting a feeder in the yard of
221 - 2nd
St. in Gibsons. To my knowledge this is only the second record for this
bird north
of Mexico. The home owners are allowing birders to observe the bird from
the
their driveway. The feeder is only a meter or so from the fence at the end
of the
driveway.. The bird is very active and is coming to the feeder every 10 to
15
minutes. It is thought the bird has been present since Sunday, November 16.

Please respect the homeowners property and stay on the driveway when
viewing
the bird. The alert would appreciate updates from birders on this bird.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE, and a SHORT EARED OWL were reported from the
foot of 72nd at Boundary Bay. In a field along 72nd were 30 TRUMPETER
SWANS.
