Someone else mentioned that to me. I bought mine in the local CO-OP
store that sells bird feeding supplies. I recall "Audobon" was on the
packaging. I believe it is available from Duncraft for $5 US. I don't
have their catalog .... perhaps someone who does can check and advise on
that Jim. It's a fun thing. You could make one if you had the parts.

In the short time I have used it, it wasn't exactly a bird magnet, but
it has so far peaked the curiosity of smaller birds like Finches,
Chickadees and Redpolls who came and investigated. I have no idea what
other birds might be attracted by it. I think it has some merit. If
nothing else, it drives my cat crazy trying to figure out where I have
hidden a bird in the house (have to practice you know). :)

DESCRIPTION:
It is a very simple tiny device, but sounds realistic and was louder
than I anticipated. It has a round-nosed metal part that resembles a
thick key, mounted into a stopped hole in a cylindrical piece of wood
about half inch diameter and an inch long. It is held together loosely
by a single screw in the end of the hollowed out wood cylinder. The
screw goes through the wood part and into the end of the metal key part
so there is play back and forth about a half inch. You simply turn the
metal part inside the wood part which is treated inside with resin. A
capsule of extra resin comes with it. Varying pressure, speed, and
direction of the turning movements makes different bird chirping
sounds. The more pressure applied, and the faster it is turned, the
higher the frequencies produced and vice versa.

It is small enough that I keep it in a little change purse I carry in my
pocket. Hope that helps.
