To Janet Hardin of Port Townsend, glad you finally spotted some whales!
Subpod L-25 left Dyes inlet on Wed. 19 Nov 97 at around 1:30 and headed East
through Rich Passage. Observers lost sight of them at that point. It is
possible that you spotted some members of pod the next day off of Port
Townsend, heading out to more open water. I understand your excitement at
the surprise appearance of an orca fin in your scope right behind the sea
birds you might have been watching. We see them all summer and the thrill
never wears off.
Best regards,
Francis Smith
San Juan Island
