And then there was the day about twenty years ago I was birding at Blackie
Spit and looked N about 2 km across to the Boundary Bay foreshore and saw a
pink blob which resolved in the (borrowed) telescope into a pink flamingo
stuck out there on the mud. Great, I thought, it being not long after
Hallowe'en, kids up to tricks again--ya just can't get away from it, not
even when you're birding. Then the flamingo walked into the water and began
to feed.
