Sure it's true; otherwise how would the geese know where to migrate? '-)

In the same myth section: there used to be a story that Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds would migrate south until they reached the Gulf of Mexico and
would stop there before heading out over the water to pick up small twigs to
carry in their bills. When they needed a breather, they'd drop to the water
using the twig as a flotation device, wait until their puff came back and be
on their way again.
