Spent a wet hour at Kent Ponds, WA this afternoon, Sunday, Nov 23, 1997. My
efforts were rewarded after scanning the American Widgeon flocks for while
up popped a cinnamon head with a jaunty little beige cap! It's been a few
years since I've seen a Eurasian Widgeon, so this was a bit fo a thrill.

A small group of "minimensis"? Canada Geese flew overhead making a very
strange "non-honk". Could be the "Cackling" variety?

Also, amongst the Am Widgeons was a male which had "a lot" of while on his
head. The white extended down between the bill and eyes much further than
the other males and a lot more than shown any of the field guides. Is there
much variation in Am Widgeon plumage?
