This is the Vancouver, B.C. Bird Alert for Friday, November 28th, 10:30
P.M. update.

The Rare Bird Alert continues for the XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD.

Featured birds this evening are XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD, WHITE-WINGED RACE of
the DARK-EYED JUNCO and HOODED ORIOLE.

Sightings for Friday, November 28th

The XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD was reported today at its 221 - 2nd St. Gibsons
location.

Thus far the home owners are allowing birders to observe the bird from the
fence at the end of their driveway. Photographers are asked to be
considerate not to cause the bird undue stress. The home owners would
appreciate visiting birders sign the provided guest book.

Directions to 2nd St. are as follows. Take the Langdale Ferry from
Horseshoe Bay. From the ferry follow Hwy #101 towards Gibsons and Seschelt.
While passing through Gibsons watch for a Tim Hortons/Wendy's on your
right. The intersecting road just past this point is Pratt. Turn left onto
Pratt and follow to its end at Gower Pt. Rd. Turn right and follow this
road to 2nd St. Turn right and proceed uphill to 221 which is on your left.
There is a saw horse in the driveway.

The alert would appreciate updates on this bird.

Other out of town birds of note are a DARK-EYED JUNCO of the WHITE-WINGED
RACE and a HOODED ORIOLE. The HOODED ORIOLE which was first observed on
November 19 is still present in Terrace. Call Cherly Thomas at 250-635-2506

A bird of the WHITE-WINGED RACE of the DARK-EYED JUNCO was discovered in
Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. This race is normally found
in the north central part of the U.S. from S.E. Montana to N.E. South
Dakota.

Thursday, November 27th

Late swallows were present at Iona with 6 CLIFF and 2 BARN SWALLOWS. A
NORTHERN SHRIKE was also present.

The BRANT numbers at the foot of 12th in Tsawwassen rose to 240.

Wednesday, November 26th

The XANTUS' HUMMINGBIRD was reported in Gibsons.

Nine SHORT-EARED OWLS were reported from Boundary Bay with 6 at the foot of
72nd and another 3 near the foot of 64th. Also from the foot of 64th was a
PEREGRINE.

Another PEREGRINE was seen in Vancouver between the Burrard and Granville
Bridges.

Tuesday, November 25th

Four SNOW BUNTINGS were reported from Harris Rd. in Pitt Meadows and
another from the Iona Jetty. Two CLIFF SWALLOWS and a BARN SWALLOW were
observed over the sewage ponds at Iona.

A HOUSE WREN was sighted on Sea Island in the old Cora Brown Subdivision
west of MacDonald Rd.

Two CRESTED MYNAS were seen on 2nd, between Alberta & Yukon.

PEREGRINE FALCONS were reported from Vine & 41st and the foot of 12th in
Tsawwassen. Also seen at this location were 3 EURASIAN WIDGEON, 55 BRANT
and a SHORT-EARED OWL.

The YELLOW-BILLED LOON was relocated at Crescent Beach, south of Blackie
Lane. Also at Crescent Beach was the ROCK SANDPIPER at the foot of
Sullivan.
