Hello, this is Portland Audubon Societys Rare Bird Report. This recording was made Thursday October 2. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

An immature SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was along North Beaver Creek Road south of Newport September 25. It could not be relocated.

Two COSTAS HUMMINGBIRDS were at a Grants Pass feeder September 27. One was at the same feeder last winter.

An immature ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at Six Mile Pond in the Catlow Valley September 27.

A SABINES GULL was at Cape Sebation in Curry County September 27. Another was at Boiler Bay the same day. SNOWY EGRETS are still being seen at Yaquina and Siletz Bays. Heavy southward movements of BROWN PELICANS are now being seen along the coast as strong storms force many birds out of the state.

An adult GOSHAWK was near Nehalem September 28. Two PALM WARBLERS were on the Bayocean Penninsula north of the parking lot September 28.

Two PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River September 28. Up to four LAPLAND LONGSPURS have been in the South Jetty area all week. A heavy movement of GREEN-WINGED TEAL coming off the ocean and flying up the Columbia River took place September 29.

CANADA GEESE and SANDHILL CRANES are now arriving in good numbers on Sauvie Island. A late CASPIAN TERN and four HERRING GULLS were on the Island September 24. The Sauvie Island Wildlife Area closed October 1 and will not reopen until February 1.

A HEERMANNS GULL was among a gull flock on the Columbia River near the I205 Bridge in North Portland September 29. The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK continues to be seen at the Forest Grove Ponds, but is quite elusive. On September 26 a FORSTERS TERN was at the ponds.

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at the Mollala Sewage Ponds October 1.

A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was near Tangent in the Willamette Valley September 27. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was in West Eugene September 28.

An adult POMARINE JAEGER was at McNary Dam on the Columbia River in Umatilla County September 28.

Cold Springs Campground near Sisters has been very active during the week as the nearby burn has attracted a number of woodpeckers, including BLACK-BACKED and WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKERS and WILLIAMSONS SAPSUCKERS. Several PYGMY-0WLS are also in the area.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was among the migrant sparrow flock at Brothers September 28. A female REDSTART was at the intersection of Island Ranch and Embree Bridge Road north of Wrights Point and southeast of Burns September 29. Two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were at the Narrow in Malheur NWR, otherwise it is rather quiet in the Malheur area.
