Just to be nice, and to give him the benefit of the doubt (yeah, I know, a
stretch for me, considering it was spam involved...), I sent him this
myself:

Mr Doyle,
The tweeters mailing list is *not* a plce for advertisements like
this. While your book may be of interest to people on the mailing list,
it is a discussion list. I'm sure no one would mind if you were to post a
nice, short, note indicating your work, and that anyone wanting more
information can email you for details, and no one would complain, but this
was way out of hand. This kind of behaivior falls in line with what people
these days call 'spam.'
In the future, please be a bit more discreet and mindful of the
fact that many people on this list have to pay for every byte of data they
receive.
