Thanks for the good discussion of the Conservation License and other
sources of funding for non-hunted wildlife and their habitats. A special
thanks to Don Baccus.
The reason I brought the subject up was because as I stand on the new WDFW
official wildlife reserves in the Skagit Valley (one for snow geese, one
for swans) I find it difficult to accept that much of the funding for these
no-hunt refuges comes from hunting or hunter oriented dollars. The snow
goose area on Fir Island will be open to birders and other non-hunt users
so you can enjoy geese and many other species during the hunting season
ocurring elsewhere in the Skagit. The Fir Island Farm project has been
enhanced by the adjacent landowner putting his property in reserve status
to double the reserve area! When partnerships happen all wildlife benefit.
