Hi,
I very belated report from a visit at the west coast of
Vancouver Island last weekend. A group of birders from Vanc.
tried to go on a pelagic trip from Ucluelet - tried, as on
Sunday morning there was no guarantee that the boat would
really have gone to where we wanted to go, not just close
to shore or in Barkley Sound (biggish waves).
Anyways, I give here a list of birds I've heard have been
seen on this trip - mostly by other birders.
A good spot to watch for pelagic birds seemed the Amphitrite
Lighthouse in Ucluelet; some shorebirds were seen at Long Beach.

Highlights:
Common and Pacific Loons
1 Black-footed Albatross
1 Northern Fulmar
Sooty Shearwater (my life bird)
Pink-footed Shearwater
Buller's Shearwater
2 Brown Pelicans
Brandt's Cormorant
Red-necked Phalarope
Black-legged Kittiwake
Common Murre
Rhinoceros Auklet

Shorebirds: Black-bellied Plover
Black Oystercatcher
Greater (?) Yellowlegs
Black Turnstone
Surfbird
Sanderling; (mixed in 1 Western (?) Sandpiper and
2 Dunlins. WESA always 1 step short of the Sanderlings,
the Dunlins just a bit sticking out of the crowd)
(Red-necked Phalaropes)
