we observed the following species:

Brown Pelican - Approx 14 on Violet Spit, on the eastern point on
Protection Island, this was a special treat as it was the first sighting of
this species by most of those aboard

Mammals:
Harbor Seals - Protection Island, Rat Island

In the waters off of Protection Island and in Port Townsend Bay we observed
some large "bait balls", probably sand lance, that attracted extraordinary
feeding flocks.

The next Protection Island Cruise is scheduled for Saturday, October 11th
at 1 pm.
