We finally got a break in the rain which we have had for almost a week now. Around the north end of Kootenay Lake, the Common Loons(19) are still snacking on the spawned out kokanee. The Common Merganser seem to have left, replaced by Western Grebes(25). The Pied-billed Grebes seem to forming into small groups of 3 or 4. A Swainson's Thrush and two American Pipits were a surprise.
The best sighting of the day was hearing a flock of Sandhill Cranes and then seeing two in a hayfield in Meadow Creek, which is about 5 miles north.
Cheers
