This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for October 6,

On September 24, Dennis Rockwell reported an early, immature ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK over Two Rivers Park in Finley.

On September 25, I (Bob Woodley) found 6 GREAT EGRETS on the Yakima Delta

But the real finds came on September 26 when Mike Denny discovered a male
GARGANEY and an adult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK on the Walla Walla Delta. The
Garganey was not seen again, but the hawk reappeared briefly on September 28.

Also on the Walla Walla Delta on September 28 were GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 2 SANDERLING, and a FRANKLIN'S GULL. On the
Yakima Delta that day as well as the next day an immature SABINE'S GULL was
present.

Also on September 29, both BLACK-BELLIED AND AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER as well
as a PEREGRINE FALCON were on the Yakima Delta and a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE
was eating pyracantha berries in Mary Nowakowski's Richland yard.

On September 30, Dennis Rockwell reported a SABINE'S GULL, a PACIFIC LOON
and a RED-NECKED GREBE on the Columbia River off Two Rivers Park. The grebe
was present at least until October 3.

64 SANDHILL CRANE were observed flying north over Richland on September 30
by Ruth Fischer who also mentioned having seen 4-5 dozen sandhills heading
south on September 28.

A RUFF was discovered by Mike Denny on October 1 at the pond behind Iowa
Beef (off Rt 12/Dodd Iowa Beef Rd). It was accompanied by 7 Greater Yellowlegs.

An immature COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, a GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, and a LINCOLN'S
SPARROW were found in Leslie Groves Park in Richland by me (Bob Woodley) on
October 3 and the following day, Nancy & Bill LaFramboise reported another
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW in their Richland yard.

On October 5, Dennis Rockwell found a CLARK'S GREBE with 2 WESTERN GREBES
just west of the Bateman Island causeway and an immature first winter
FRANKLIN'S GULL on the Kennewick sewage ponds.

Also on October 5, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise found 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER
on the Yakima Delta whereas today (10/6) Nancy LaFramboise and I found 2
SURF SCOTERS and 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER there.
