Irene,

I don't know of Ospreys in either Seward Park or on Mercer Island. The nearest
nest I know of is just north of Renton in the Quendall Log Yard. It is
more-or-less directly east from the southern Bald Eagle nest on Mercer Island.
The birds can see one another from their nests. The Ospreys get ripped off
(excuse me; kleptoparasitized) by the Bald Eagles when they catch fish west of
Mercer Island and try to fly through Bald Eagle air space.
As to the Osprey nest success, I am not sure. First some Canada Geese nested
successfully in the nest atop the pole (placed on the property for the
Ospreys). After that the Ospreys had a late start and I did not manage to
return to check on nest success. Sorry.
To see the Osprey nest, southbound on 405, take exit 7, directly off the ramp
take a right. Go north parallel to the RR-tracks, a few (2?) hundred feet. Do
a U-turn and park on the gravel next to the tracks, north of the RR-crossing.
Set your scope up or raise your binoculars and follow the power lines west
towards Lake Washington. After the power lines disappear below grade (to cross
the water submerged) there's one more, shorter, pole, with the nest.
If no-one else has info on nest success I could try and make some calls.
Let me know.
