Protection Island is about two miles from the mainland, if I remember
correctly.

Peter - Thanks for the notes on other deer sightings on P.I. I find it
interesting that deer will swim that far, but Black-capped Chickadees will
not attempt flying across water that distance. Maybe one could hitch a
ride on a deer!
