Likely a migrant bird, Martin. They breed well into north-central BC (even a
breeding record from the extreme NW corner of BC right against the Alaska
border) and the northern ones are migratory. And there has been the first
good cold-snap of the winter there about a week ago, so the timing's about
right. They're just so darn quiet that it's hard to see the residents, let
alone migrants, so the RBSA migration is very difficult to suss out. I guess
look for a place that should have them and monitor it Sep-Oct-Nov and again
in spring Feb-Mar-Apr as sapsuckers seem generically to be a pretty early
migrant.
