Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday October 16. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

An immature KENTUCKY WARBLER was reported October 10 among a flock of
migrant warblers at the west end of Suttle Lake near Santiam Pass. It was
not relocated.

A group of nine LAPLAND LONGSPURS was at Bandon October 12. 45 were at
the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay that day. 400 were along the foredune at
Del Rey Beach, north of Gearhart October 11, and over 100 were at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River October 10.

In addition 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were inland at the Sheridan Sewage Ponds
October 11, and 3 were near Perrydale October 12.

8 FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS were inside Netarts Bay October 11. At least
8 were off Boiler Bay October 12 along with an immature Sabine's Gull, a
number of KITTIWAKES and 2 POMARINE JAEGERS. At least 5 FORK-TAILED
STORM-PETRELS were inside the Columbia River mouth October 12, along with
a NORTHERN FULMAR. An OLDSQUAW was on Meares Lake at Tillamook Bay
October 12.

A good movement of PACIFIC LOONS were passing the mouth of the Columbia
River October 11. 4 PARASITIC and a POMARINE JAEGER were attracted to the
hundred or more KITTIWAKES in the area. A SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER was off
Ecola State Park October 12.

An unusually large number of coastal birds were seen inland during the
week. 3 SURF SCOTERS were on the Washougal, WA Sewage Ponds and 2 were at
Skamania October 12. 10 HORNED GREBES, 2 EARED GREBES, a RED-NECKED
GREBE, at least 10 GREATER SCAUP, 4 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 6 SURF SCOTERS,
a HEERMANN'S GULL, and an ARCTIC TERN were at the Forest Grove Ponds
October 12.

An ARCTIC TERN, 2 HEERMANN'S GULLS, 2 RED-NECKED GREBES, and 3
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were at Roslyn Lake, near Sandy during the week. A
probable AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was at the Mollala Sewage Ponds October
14.

2 SABINE'S GULLS and 3 SURF SCOTERS, and an EARED GREBE were on the
Yamhill Sewage Ponds October 9. A flock of MEW, CALIFORNIA, and HERRING
GULLS were near Newberg that day. A GREATER SCAUP was at Cascade Gateway
Park in Salem October 11. A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was at a feeder near
Silverton October 13.

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were near Baskett Slough NWR
October 12. A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was on the Independence Sewage Ponds
October 13. A RED-NECKED GREBE and 13 SURF SCOTERS were on the Monmouth
Sewage Ponds October 12. The next day a THAYER'S GULL was there.

3 SABINE'S GULLS, 2 HEERMANN'S GULLS, and 11 SURF SCOTERS were on the
Sheridan Sewage Ponds October 11. 3 SURF SCOTERS and a CANVASBACK were on
the Philomath Sewage Ponds that day.

Among the heavy movements of VIOLET-GREEN and BARN SWALLOWS, and VAUX'S
SWIFTS during the week was a BLACK SWIFT at Eugene October 11, and 2
WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS at Toketee Lake in the Cascades east of Roseburg.

A BROWN PELICAN was along the Columbia River just downstream from McNary
Dam October 13. A SURF SCOTER was at Willow Cove SWA near Arlington
October 10. Another was near Klamath Falls October 12. A THAYER'S GULL
and 15 HERRING GULLS were in Klamath Falls October 13. A GREEN HERON was
south of Burns near Wrights Point October 10.

A BOREAL OWL responded to calls in the forests north of Tollgate in
northeastern Oregon October 10. The next day snow closed the roads.
