Locally, the only kind of cold snap that brings them off the local mountains
in winter here is one that's deeply cold and lasts long enough to freeze a
tree right down to the roots; that process seems to take at least a week of
really frigid cold. We haven't yet had anything close to that in the
Cascadian region, quite the opposite, in fact: we've had unseasonable
warmth. But there *has* been sustained cold up north, not drastically
frigid, but below freezing at night for a couple of weeks.

I still think it's better than even odds this bird was a migrant and not
local. The timing coincides with a substantial influx of a whack of Song
Sparrows, Varied Thrushes and Hermit Thrushes.
