Yes, they do. One at Iona Island outraced an adult Peregrine Falcon in level
flight for a good several minutes, and lived to tell; the 'grine just
couldn't keep up, kept trying to get slightly above it to dive and get some
more speed. The pigeon/dove countered by not only flying slightly faster
straight-line but also angling slightly upward to prevent the falcon from
getting height on it.
