My biggest news isn't mine: a friend called Sunday afternoon from Olympia to
report an American White Pelican in East Bay. Hey, that's MY area! I suspected
she was looking at an immature Brown Pelican, but she seemed sure about the
immaculate white plumage. Hope it's there tomorrow. (An American White Pelican
was photographed in this same area in July 1978.)
Edmonds-Kingston ferry, Point No Point, and back, from 9 to 2. Near-constant
scoping (20x) between 10 and 11:30 at PNP brought nothing unusual through my
optic nerve. A single jaeger (juv, no "tail"), left unidentified, and a single
phalarope, left unidentified (odds are with Parasitic and Red-necked, I
suppose, but odds hereabouts are out of kilter this fall, it seems).
A scattering of murres, murrelets, auklets, loons, grebes. Reasonable numbers
of Bonaparte's Gulls. A few Heermann's.
Fork-tailed Storm-petrel (1) on the ferry just before returning to Edmonds.
