Michael -

I have noticed, in the small roost in my neighborhood, that the crows
leave in large groups. These groups get a certain distance out,
socialize, and then break into smaller groups that fan out even further.
each group seems to reach a certain distance, stop, socializes, and then
breaks up further and farther.

The reverse seems to be true in the evenings. Also, there seems to be a
time during the day when all 'seriousness' ends, and the crows take an
hour or so to just play and explore and poke about at things, snooze,
preen, groom each other, and torment the cats.
