In view of the distress many falconers felt at the
unsupported comment on Prairie Falcon depletion due
to alleged taking of eyass birds by falconers set forth
^^^^^^^
in the current Audubon Calendar..and Field Guide, the
following item makes one wonder if anyone is driving
in that outfit.



This is a verbatim copy of a little squib in Birdwatcher's Digest
Vol. 20 No. 2 November/December 1997

An ad in the July/August issue of Audubon Magazine has
Internet chat groups buzzing. The ad, which appears on page 111
is for a book, *The Lost Folk Art of Taming Crows* . Part of the
text of the ad reads "SECRETS REVEALED about how, where and
when to catch a crow and make it your talking pet." The controversy
arose because, according to the USF&WS, catching and keeping
wild crows is against the law in the United States, and it is not
possible to get a permit to do so except in a few cases involving
research projects. Many asked why Audubon would run such an
ad. No response was available at press time.
