All this discussion about id'ing birds. Last night at a 4H meeting, a
person who teaches wildlife habitat to our Natural Resourses group asked
me for help id'ing a bird that has recently visited their acreage near
Monroe. She said it was an overall gray in color with a noticeable
decurved (downward-sloping?) and long bill. She indicated with her hands
a length of perhaps 10 inches, and said it flew up on the roof of the
house and was "hanging down" over the gutter! She thought maybe it was
some king of thrasher--she thought it looked like a Bendire's as pictured
in the National Geographic Field Guide. I showed her the picture of a
Northern Mockingbird in the same book, and she said the bird somewhat
resembled that--but had a longer and more curved bill. Any ideas?
