Hello, this is Portland Audubon Societys Rare Bird Report. This recording was made Thursday October 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

On October 15 three TROPICAL KINGBIRDS and 2 PALM WARBLERS were near Cape Blanco on the southern Oregon coast.

The October 18 offshore boat trip out of Depoe Bay found 9 BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, 107 FULMARS, 20 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, 3 FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, 442 BULLERS SHEARWATERS, and only 672 SOOTY SHEARWATERS. Also recorded were 16 POMARINE JAEGERS, a SKUA, a RED PHALAROPE, and several ANCIENT MURRELETS.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was at Yaquina Bay October 17. A fresh dead MOTTLED PETREL was found dead on the beach at Pacific City October 22. A dead SKUA was dead on the beach at the mouth of the Columbia River.

The South Jetty of the Columbia River still has a PARASITIC JAEGER hazing a number of BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES. On October 18 a FRANKLINS GULL, a COMMON TERN, and 2 ARCTIC TERNS were in the area. There were 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS there that day also.

On October 18 a raft of 18 SURF SCOTERS was on Vancouver Lake, north of Vancouver, Washington. A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was on Sauvie Island October 21. A BARRED OWL was along Oak Island Road on the Island the evening of October 20. The BARRED OWL at Champoeg State Park is still being seen.

Three SURF SCOTERS, the RED-NECKED GREBE, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, and a single BARN SWALLOW were at the Forest Grove Ponds October 17. A pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL were at Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro October 20. A ROSSS GOOSE and a SNOW GOOSE were with the large flocks of CANADA GEESE at Baskett Slough NWR October 19. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK is also on the refuge.

On October 19 hundreds of KILLDEER and HORNED LARKS were on a farm field along Hinck Road near Tangent. With them was a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER with an Orange bill and yellowish legs.

A SABINES GULL was reported October 20 over North Corvallis. A WHITE-TAILED KITE is now at Finley NWR. A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at the end of Royal Avenue on the east side of Fern Ridge Reservoir October 17. A late WESTERN TANAGER was a Grants Pass October 21.

Five WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were on Three Creeks Lake, south of Sisters October 18. There were no scoters on Suttle Lake October 17 but there were 2 CLARKS GREBES among the many WESTERNS, and about 60 EARED GREBES.

A stranded WESTERN GREBE was found dead on a downtown LaGrande sidewalk October 20.
