On the local Seattle 11PM news last night, there was a 1/2-1 minute story
about a NUKOR(?) steel plant gathering in Hoquiam. It appeared to be in a
high school gym, complete with cheerleaders, pom-poms, and band, having an
apparent "pep rally" for locating the plant there. The NUKOR and Hoquiam
people looked very happy and the residents directly interviewed talked only
about jobs. The Bowerman Basin/birds were shown briefly with a talk-over
of "bird watchers are concerned....", followed by a picture/talk-over at
the same level of concern that the airport would have to be moved. I did
not hear Audubon or any environmental organization directly mentioned, but
I missed the first few seconds of the story, as I was in another room when
I heard it start. Maybe someone else here can expand on this.

Hi Tweeters--especially Hoquiam-area Tweeters

I read in Seattle's Sunday PI/Times a short blurb about the possible
steel plant locating next to Bowerman's Basin.

The article mentioned that members of the Audubon Club and at least one
other environmental group were meeting with the Powers-That-Be to discuss
environmental impact/mitigation. That meeting is supposed to happen this
week. Can someone out there in Hoquiam-Tweeter Land give us an update on
that meeting?
