the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
25 Oct 1997 0945 to 1045hr

Method: One hour (timed) station count 100m west of "3 rocks" on
top of SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: Though there were lots of things around this morning the over all
numbers were not all that impressive. BROWN PELICANS appear to be be down
to a small south bound flocks. Only one HEERMANN'S GULL was seen.
A PIGEON GUILLEMOT (basic plumage) and a RHINOCEROS AUKLET were very close
to the jetty and easily observed. At about 1020hr a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK
came in from the ocean along the jetty.
