I spent an hour or so at the Des Moines, WA fishing pier on Saturday, October
25, 1997.

The Barrows Goldeneye were beautiful! Counted 11 males and 1 female. The
males were doing their head bobbing routine in the morning sun.

A few Rhinocerous auklets around the pier as well as Red Necked, Western and
Horned Grebes. One of the Red Necked still had a bit of a red neck!.

The highlight was a Common Loon, still in summer plumage! It was splendid.

Plenty of scoters, especially Surf Scoter. One winter Bonaparte's Gull
bobbing about like a Phalarope in the shallows!
