A satellite transmitter was attached on a young Golden Eagle (Aquila
chrysaetos) in Utajarvi (SE of the city of Oulu, Finland) on 16.6.1997.

The bird has been recorded from the following sites (first in Finland,
then in Russia and Belarus and the again in Russia):

29.9. The bird left it's home grounds being still present at 10.39 am,
but the same day at 2.28 pm in Karsamaki [about 150 km to SSW]
1.10. Pyhanta [66 km to the NE]
3.10. Lievestuore [212 km to the SSW]
5.10. Heinola [about 120 km to the S]
7.10. Koivisto (Primorsk), Russia [_about_ 170 km to the SE]
9.10. By Lake Ladoga, Pahkinalinna (Petrokrepost), Russia
11.10. Mouth of river Neva, St. Petersburg, Russia
13-15.10 the area of St. Petersburg and Novgorod, Russia
17.-23.10. Velikeje Luki [about 56N 30E], Russia
25.10. Vitebsk, Belarus
27.10. 280 km west of Moscow

This is apparently the first time a satellite transmitter is attached on
a Golden Eagle.

PS. Is anyone aware of a location where information of all on-going
satellite tracking projects could be found?
