Thanks for the comments on this term, Tweets. A
friend and I were having a discussion about it. We
knew it wasn't the same as "endemic," but is still
often used about the flora and fauna of a region.

My conclusion is that it would be a word to avoid
using when discussing migratory birds. Since
it can mean "produced in", Alaska would
get to claim a really hefty group of indigenous
birds, but one would still have to explain that
they aren't around here for most of the year.
