Columbia Estuary Report - 9/1/97

There are still 30+ ELEGANT TERNS working the South Jetty of the
Columbia River. SOOTY SHEARWATERS are easily seen from the
observation deck. A MONARCH BUTTERFLY was among the south bound
migrants at the SJCR.

Shorebird diversity is still pretty good, but the density is
so slow that it would be easy to believe otherwise. Most notable
is a very tame AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER that has been in the area
since Friday.
