The Washington State Dept of Fish and Wildlife is conducting surveys this
year and next to study Band-Tailed Pigeon populations, which are on the
decline in our state. I used to have 5-10 hanging around every spring and
summer, this year I saw 3 birds for one day, that's it. If you want to
participate in the surveys, contact WDFW at 206-775-1311.

I called and the survey is finished.

Hmmm, interesting. The count for this year finished 8/31 (I'm a
participant) and anyone who turns in this year's form will automatically
receive a survey for next year. But I didn't think 1997 participation was
a prerequisite for 1998. Perhaps they've signed up enough participants,
or perhaps you just got someone who thought you were asking about 1997
counts and didn't know about 1998 surveys. If you are interested, you
might try again -- the memo accompanying this year's "preliminary
questionnaire" was from Patricia Thompson -- maybe asking for her directly
would help.
