Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday September 4. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

A YELLOW WAGTAIL was reported August 31 flying northward over the Siltcoos
River mouth, south of Florence. It has not been relocated.

On August 28 two WHOOPING CRANES were observed in the meadowlands south of
Klamath Falls. They have not been relocated and the report remains
unverified.

Large numbers of shorebirds continue to be seen along the southern Oregon
coast, especially at Bandon, where the BAR-TAILED GODWIT and RUFF were
among the numbers of MARBLED GODWIT and KNOTS.

Tow BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS and two PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were among the
swarm at New River south of Bandon August 28. RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and
GREAT EGRETS continue to occur in ever increasing numbers. A SNOWY EGRET
was at Yaquina Bay August 30, another was at Siletz Bay August 31.
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were reported from many areas as the early migration
comes to a peak.

A CASSIN'S AUKLET was among the swarm of phalaropes off Barview Jetty at
Tillamook Bay August 28. Several ELEGANT TERNS were on the Bayocean flats,
and 114 were at the Necanicum River mouth at Seaside that day. Up to six
PARASITIC JAEGERS are being seen off the South Jetty of the Columbia River
harrassing the terns.

On August 29 a flock of 375 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at Coon Point on
Sauvie Island. That day an adult GOSHAWK was at the Forest Grove Ponds. The
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK continues to be seen there. A BARRED OWL was along the
nature trail in Champoeg State Park August 30.

Small flocks of EVENING GROSBEAKS are now arriving in the Willamette Valley
as post breeding wandering birds continue to be found in odd places.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER and two LESSER GOLDFINCHES were at the Prineville
Sewage Ponds August 30. RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, some WHITE-FRONTED GEESE,
and a GREAT EGRET are also being seen there.

A RED-EYED VIREO was among the many vireos and warblers at Malheur Refuge
Headquarters August 30. Many shorebirds are still being seen on the refuge.
