While commuting on the 4:30 p.m. ferry from Kingston to Edmonds
yesterday (9/8/97), I spotted a yearling Brown Pelican. The pelican
rode the ferry draft all the way across the sound, remaining
approximately 50 feet above the top deck. It veered away and flew back
towards the middle of the sound as the boat approached Edmonds. This is
my first pelican sighting in Puget Sound after 14 years of ferry
commuting!
